ALL INFORMATION AND MATERIAL ON THIS WEBSITE, AND IN ANY ELECTRONIC OR PRINT MATERIALS THAT YOU RECEIVE FROM CAROL STEINEL OR THE SCS, ARE COPYRIGHTED. (Including any and all Images, Animations, Recordings, Digital Downloads, and Text)

You are permitted to use, copy, or distribute this information only as follows:

FOR PERSONAL USE:

You may use this information for personal, non-commercial use without seeking advance permission. 

Personal non-commercial use means: Used by you on your personal computer or audio device for personal education and enjoyment (example: an image used as a screen-saver for use on your personal computer, a purchased recording on your ipod, a purchased video viewed by you at home, etc.), or as a print-out from your personal computer or in print form as received from us for your individual, non-commercial use. 

You may forward email that you receive from us to one individual at a time who is on your personal email list without seeking advance permission (but not to a distribution list or group), provided that 1) it is clearly indicated that you are the sender of the forwarded email, and 2) that you forward the entire email as written, with any copyright notice included.  (We send email only to those who have requested it, and do not send any unsolicited email, which is illegal in the state of Washington.  These policies help us to stay off of spam blacklists.)

FOR ALL OTHER USES YOU MUST receive written permission from us and once you receive permission, there are generally requirements and restrictions in regards to editing and attribution.

GET WRITTEN PERMISSION If you are duplicating, transcribing, reprinting, linking to, or otherwise distributing any of our copyrighted information/material (whether image, animation, audio recordings, videos, digital downloads, or text) for use on or within:

• Any website, whether personal, organizational, educational, business, or corporate (you are permitted to embed video or sound files on your website, but only if we have provided an embed link in the material),

• Any newsletter, whether electronic or printed, whether personal or organizational,

• Any email, if organizational, business, or corporate,

• Any personal email (except as described above),

• Any print forms for distribution to others (whether personal, educational, commercial, or non-commercial – for example, as class handouts, in an article, etc.), OR

• Any creation of derivative works based on the material for dissemination or distribution to others, whether electronic, print, or recorded.

Two exceptions exist to the written permission requirement:

1. You may embed a video or sound file from our website (only if we have provided an embed link in the material) without seeking written permission.

2. If the material is marked with a Creative Commons license notice (rather than a standard copyright notice), you may use the material in accordance with the CC license it appears under (which will often require only attribution, not written permission -- click on the CC logo to read the specific license involved).

PROVIDE THE INFORMATION AS WRITTEN:  You are not permitted to edit for content. If you need a shorter version to fit a certain word count we will be glad to provide you with a version which we will edit.

MORE ABOUT PERMISSIONS:

• We will usually grant permissions for use of our work on sites and in publications which:

  • Are either:

    • Aligned with our organization's beliefs and purposes, or

    • Seeking to provide objective information about our organization and/or its activities

  • AND -- Which include only content which is in the site owner's or publisher's direct control (in other words, if your site is hosted on a server which pops up sidebar ads or other content which is not under your control, we probably will not grant permission for use on your site -- the reason for this is that we do not wish for our materials to appear in association with content that may be detractive or antithetical to our personal ethics or professional purposes -- for example, content which is discriminatory or defamatory.)

• If we grant you permission to use materials from our site or emails, the permission will include any requirements for attribution for our material (in plain language -- giving credit where credit is due).

  • Most website permissions will include the requirement that you include our complete copyright label in each place that our information is included, and which includes a live link directly to our website.  If we grant permission, our written permission document will include an html statement that will produce this attribution exactly as we require it to be displayed, which you can paste into your web page once you have received our permission to use the material.

PLEASE NOTE:  Some images on our site are from other internet sources, but if so, they are credited to the originating source according to that source's use policy, with copyright information listed, where known.   If you find an image or other information on this website that you think needs to be acknowledged in a certain way in order to honor its creator please let us know.  If no specific copyright is listed under an image, the copyright of the entire page is in force, and you must contact us for permission before using the material, except for purely personal use.
