How We Set Prices for Our Recordings

We strive to keep prices for the recordings we make available as affordable as possible.

Our pricing of downloadable MP3s and physical CDs usually differs, but both are generally in line with other comparable sound recordings which are available for sale to the public.

Our downloadable MP3s are generally offered at a lower cost than the physical CDs for the following reasons:
  • They are usually compressed down from the stereo/hi-fi audio files that appear on the CDs (we usually use AM quality voice compression), so the quality of these recordings is not as good as that on the CDs (although they still have very good audio quality).
  • Physical CDs require processing and material costs at our end (the labor of burning CDs, designing and applying/burning labels, packaging, and shipping costs), which are not required in the creation of MP3 downloadables.
The average audio album contains around 12 three-to-five minute songs (36 - 60 minutes of recorded material). At present, due to technical restrictions, an audio CD can only contain 78 minutes of recording. Since many of our talks, teachings, etc. exceed this length, most of our recordings are included on CD "sets", including anywhere from one to three CDs.

The average cost of a new CD, purchased from the artist, is $15.00 USD -- and this is generally what we charge, per physical CD.

The average cost of a 3-5 minute MP3 track is $.99 USD -- so, if we sell an MP3 of a 20 minute talk, we generally use this as a pricing gauge, and charge anywhere from $3 - $6 for it.

Example: In our recent sale of the "Emotions Series", we charged $20 for the 5-part series (a total of 98 minutes of recording time). This is comparable to a price of $.62 -$1.02/track of 3-5 minute songs.

We do not sell huge quantities of our recordings, and process and ship orders as they are received. In the future, we may choose to automate this process if the demand warrants it, and our pricing may change. For now, however, these are the guidelines that we are using.
